This year’s SMIDDY meeting took place on Friday 30th August at the beautiful new premises of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Allschwil.

We were honored to welcome our keynote speakers:
Prof. Kayoko Shioda, PhD, DVM, MPH
Dr. Shioda is an infectious disease epidemiologist and veterinarian at the Boston University School of Public Health. Her research aims to advance human and animal health by identifying evidence-based interventions for the control of infectious diseases. Her work centers on two main areas: 1) vaccine epidemiology and 2) One Health with climate change. To lead research in these fields, Dr. Shioda develops advanced analytic approaches, integrating Bayesian statistics, infectious disease dynamic modeling, and causal inference methods. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tokyo, her MPH at Emory University, and her Ph.D. at Yale University.
Prof. Thumbi Mwangi, PhD
Co-director of the Center for Epidemiological Modeling and Analysis, at University of Nairobi, and associate professor at Washington State University Paul G Allen School for Global Health, prof. Mwangi leads a research team focused on use of applied epidemiological analytics and modelling to improve the speed and quality of policy decision making in human and animal health.
